I'm Jenny De Witt, the Townie Tourist. An Orlando native, I delight in exploring the city with friends.

ORLANDO

The Beginning

1971

I was born at Florida Hospital and grew up in Altamonte Springs, Florida. My fondest memories are of hanging out at East India Cream Co. in Winter Park, dancing at Visage nightclub in Maitland, seeing movies at the Enzian, bands at The Beach Club downtown, and running around the Altamonte Mall with friends. My first real job was at the Maitland Public Library. I moved away in 1991, vowing never to return.

ORLANDO

A New Challenge

2017

Fast forward to 2012 and a decision to leave New York City for Orlando. It was reverse culture shock; suddenly feeling as if my entire life had slowed down. Orlando is part of the South after all. There's something about this slowness... this time to savor new flavors with friends, explore craft culture, and develop collaborative partnerships with people who truly care about our city. Orlando is just big/small enough to be such a place.

Now I feel like the best kind of tourist, one that lives in town. I'm ready to explore and share all that the City Beautiful (and beyond) has to offer. Welcome to the Townie Tourist, a collaborative project with Bungalower, dedicated to sharing authentic city experiences, live on Facebook. Let's take a walk.
