Behind the scenes at Orlando Shakes

Orlando Shakespeare Theatre is now lovingly called Orlando Shakes. Truth be told, they have one of the coolest prop shops and costume teams around. Dana Nichols and I took a tour to see behind the scenes at this local gem. 👇👇👇

Celebrating its thirtieth year in operation, Orlando Shakes started back in 1989 in partnership with the University of Central Florida. Artistic Director Jim Helsinger and Managing Director Douglas Love-Ramos are leading this regionally acclaimed professional theatre into the future. The Wall Street Journal called it “ outstanding…spectacular…Broadway worthy…a company that deserves to be far more widely known outside Florida.”

The cornerstone of the company are its productions by William Shakespeare and they are some of the best I’ve ever experienced. Programming can be contemporary and the Shakes is also one of the main locations for the Orlando Fringe Festival each year with every nook and cranny holding a performance or art or moment for discovery and sharing.

Their commitment to educational programming is stellar and the mission to serve the Central Florida schools and community is going strong.
