Meet the Artist: Chris Kernstock

Chris and I have known each other for a while. You may be an admirer of his work and maybe not know it. Have you been to Red Lobster? (P-O-P-C-O-R-N-S-H-R-I-M-P) I love Red Lobster. It was the FANCY restaurant my family went to for birthdays or when my grandparents came to town. Chris works for the brand and the photos he takes may be on your menu, table card, or Insta feed. He’s SO good at what he does and his photo and video skills are moving in a much more forward-facing direction with his YouTube channel.

Let’s get to know Chris Kernstock:

Childhood memento? I’d say it’s the sole surviving LEGO mini-figure from when I played with Legos as a kid. It’s in a film canister and I currently cannot find it. 😐

Recent acquisition for your home? A fully furnished baby room, so crib, dresser, rocker chair, night stand.

Current obsession? Taking photos. I’m quite addicted and constantly want to take better photos.

Favorite hobby? I have a lot of hobbies but if I had to choose a fave it might be paddle-boarding. Floating on water is a peaceful thing.

Always on you - watch, memento, etc? My camera. I was just thinking how it goes with me everywhere. You just never know what you might see or what might inspire you.

Favorite spot in your home? I have a mini couch in my office next to the window. I like it because of the natural light, it’s comfy and indoor.

Favorite neighborhood restaurant? Market on South. Vegan life!

Favorite neighborhood shop? I don’t really shop much but being a home owner I love my local Ace Hardware.

Favorite way to focus on health or wellness? Stretching. It feels so good and is another peaceful thing I love to do daily.

Favorite place visited in the last year? Green Bay Wisconsin to go to Lambeau Field and watch a Packers game. It was a bucket list spot I’m glad I got to see.

Best gift recently given? For Valentine’s Day I framed 3 photos for my wife with a picture of the place we met, the place we got engaged and the place we got married.

Best gift recently received? My best friend Ralph got me an Orlando Magic hat that I seem to wear a lot. It’s black, says Magic in graffiti and goes with most outfits.

Most inspiring book you’ve read? On the journey to turning vegan I read the book Meat is for Pu—ies. After that I made the switch to being vegan.

The thing you most love about your city? I think it’s the love and open mindset we have here in Orlando. So many people doing so many things and it’s all good.

Best thing about what you do? Creativity is key and having the ability to be creative is so important in my life. If not, I may explode.

At the top of your to-do list? Well, we have a baby on the way so that is more important than all, so preparing all things in life for that.

Other work projects? Photoshoots are on the horizon.

On your bedside table? A couple of framed photos. One of my wife and I and one of my puppy and I.

A film that holds a special place in your heart? The movie 8 Mile has always been something that has motivated me. Just reminds me you can go through things and still make it happen. #momsspaghetti ✌️
