I met Will on Twitter. Do people still meet on Twitter? Will does some of the designs for Biggie’s Deli Fresh Threads shirts. He’s really good at what he does. He doesn’t live in Orlando, but I figured since he’s impacting our community through his design work, it still counts as being part Orlandoan. So, let’s get to know Will Truran a.k.a. Noble Folk Design.

Childhood memento?

Mementos are tough for me, because I don't tend to hold on to "stuff" that doesn't serve a purpose. The only exception to that would be some of the objects I started gathering as a kid, and as an adult, while on hikes and spending time in the woods. These objects ranges from bits of bee's nests, to antlers, and other objects found in nature. I like having these items of the outdoors around my desk for long nights stuck in front of a computer.

Recent acquisition for your home?

I've been buying random drinking glasses for a passion project I have started called xMOCKTAILSx. I only buy one of each... so it has become quite an odd collection of glassware.

Current obsession?

I have been obsessed with Rock Climbing, particularly bouldering. I'm quite bad, but it's time away from the computer, it's actually got me exercising (a rarity for me), and is an additional outdoor activity for the summer! I'm sure my friends are all sick of me talking about it.

Favorite hobby?

Oh man I used to snowboard a ton, but I think for the past couple of years my favorite hobby has been hiking. When the weather is good I try to get a couple days a week where I can get in a long hike.

Always on you - watch, memento, etc?

I am so boring! This is everything I carry on me at all times... My cards/cash in a rubber band, phone, some business cards, and my keys... In addition to that I am always wearing black vans, black jeans, and a flannel. I am terribly boring and like a freaking cartoon.

Favorite spot in your home?

My little studio area is where I spend most of my time. It's a mess (and could use a makeover), but has everything I need to be productive. I have my drafting table, sewing machine, computer, and a ton of other tools I use for work and my side projects.

Favorite neighborhood restaurant?

I live in a pretty rural area, so it's tough. We have a bunch of fast food... but that's all garbage. I would have to say this local pizza shop Mama Cees is my favorite. I am a pizza freak, so it's crucial to have a good pizza spot near by!

If I am going to take a drive though... Eddie’s Roadhouse is my ride or die. I have made enemies over their poor opinions about this local treasure.

Favorite neighborhood shop?

There is a surprisingly great game shop in my town. It's a hidden gem for the nerds out there. It's called Markorama.

Favorite art museum?

THIS IS SO HARD! I'm going to list a few and explain why each is made the list.

If someone asks me to take them to an art museum I'm going to take them to The MET. It has a bit of everything and non artsy folks can appreciate the magnitude of the sculptures and Egyptian collection. Most recently I went to Cooper Hewitt and they had the most amazing tactile design exhibit and an entire exhibit exploring color which really impressed me. My favorite non NY museum is the Cleveland Museum of Art. The building is beautiful and they have the 2nd best American art collection I have ever seen, the Newark Museum being the best in my opinion.

Favorite place visited in the last year?

This past year I went on a road trip from NJ to Montana and out of all of the amazing sites I would have to say Craters of the Moon National Park was my favorite. It was like I left Earth for a day and explored another planet.

Best gift recently given?

I made my brother a custom chalk bag and bought him some FrictionLabs chalk. (told you, currently obsessed)

Best gift recently received?

My folks gave me a 3 month membership to my local climbing gym (seriously obsessed)

Most inspiring book you’ve read?

The book I enjoyed reading the most and had the largest impact on me is the Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis. I am not sure it inspired me, but it really made me think about a lot of parts of my life.

The thing you most love about your city?

I live really close to the Appalachian trail and a bunch of other solid trail systems. That has to be my favorite part of where I live.

Best thing about what you do?

Being a graphic designer allows me to be involved in a huge range of industries and getting to learn about what different companies do and working out an aesthetic that best works for them has to be my favorite part of what I do. I also love how how graphic design has given me tools to create passion projects like Dead Flesh CØ#brutalisttruth, and xMOCKTAILSx. All these projects have given me a  voice and are ways for me to spread ideas I think should be talked about.

On your bedside table?

n/a (no table)

A film that holds a special place in your heart?

Movies are super important to me... so here is another list! Empire Strikes Back made me a Star Wars fan for life! The line in Almost Famous where Philip Seymour Hoffman says "we're uncool. And while women will always be a problem for us, most of the great art in the world is about that very same problem. Good-looking people don't have any spine. Their art never lasts." has stuck with me forever. The last one I will mention is Legends of the Fall. I don't care what folks say, that movie is gold.
