Pink Elephants, Purple Horses, and Birds Everywhere

The Mennello Museum has a collection of Lawrence Lebduska’s paintings and they are a delight. His colorful scenes, landscapes full of exotic animals and birds, snapshots of history and even his home life are enough to spark imagination. The leopard looming over flamingos in a tree are one of my favorites.

Lebduska actually painted murals for Elsie de Wolfe’s home. She was known in society circles for her fantastic interior design ability and fashion taste. Think Chinoiserie wallpaper and whole rooms full of red or green furniture and accents. She was famous for her quotes.

Lebduka went on to have shows and created art until the end of his life in 1966. Fun fact, he married once and it didn’t work out, but he kind of forgot to get divorced and remarried. Had a heck of time with that snafu. However, his second “wife” Marion stuck by him and he ended his life with her alongside him along with his three children.

Check out this show before it leaves the Mennello walls on May 12th.
