When you hear the word rodeo most people think of Texas, but did you know the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi is right here in Central Florida?
Silver Spurs Rodeo in Kissimmee will be hosting their 140th rodeo from Feb. 16 - 18. This event features all seven traditional rodeo events, which are bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie down roping and barrel racing.
Here are a couple cool things I recently learned about Silver Spurs:
Silver Spurs has been around since 1944 and is the only rodeo in the country that breeds their own cattle.
Proceeds from the rodeo go to various charitable organizations in the Osceola community.
Your ticket to the rodeo also allows you admission to the Osceola County Fair.
There is a Miss, Junior Miss and Little Miss Silver Spurs. These girls compete in a rodeo-themed beauty pageant for the chance to represent Silver Spurs at various events throughout the year.
I sat down with Big Boss Dusty Holley to learn more about Florida rodeo culture and Silver Spurs. Listen in to learn more.
